UMUAHIA – Miss Ruth Kalu, Abia representative of Reclaim Naija, an NGO, has called on relevant agencies to organise more campaigns on voter education for Nigerians in the rural communities.
Kalu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umuahia on Tuesday that the move would help in the fight to reduce electoral malpractice to the barest minimum.
“The future of the country depends largely on the crop of people that are elected to become leaders.
“So, there is need for every Nigerian to be educated on the need to vote for credible people.
“A lot of Nigerians believe that the person who eventually wins elections achieve the success irrespective of the votes of the masses.”
She said that government derived its power and authority from the people as enshrined in Nigeria’s Constitution.
Kalu said that this meant that government existed to serve the people and to prioritise their welfare and security.
She said that the electorate at the grassroots needed to be properly educated so that they would come out and cast their votes wisely and vote for the best candidates.
Kalu said that through the enlightenment campaigns, every eligible voter would know how to decide who to vote for, things to do before the election and on election days. (NAN)
