Jos – A Non governmental Organisation (NGO),the Nigeria League of Women Voters, Plateau State chapter, on Wednesday commended the Northern Governors’ initiative to implement community policing in their respective states.
The NGO’s Chairperson,Mrs Lynda Barau, said at a news conference in Jos that the initiative would address the challenges of insecurity in the different states as well as in the country.
Barau also lauded the governments’ efforts at strengthening and promoting peace and unity through peace and security community dialogue with stakeholders in their states.
She said that the group was in support of all resolutions reached at the end of the dialogue.
She called on the Plateau State House of Assembly to urgently pass the “Anti-Land Grabbing Bill”.
According to the chairperson, the forceful occupation of landed property by armed persons in the state must be prohibited.
She said that the bill if signed into law, would help secure lands for the right citizens of the state.
She commiserated with Gov. Simon Lalong over the death of Sen. Ignatius Longjan,who she described as a selfless, humble and a distinguished man.(NAN)
