A non-governmental organisation (NGO), the Centre For Reform Education Initiative (CREI), has applauded the Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, (MOUAU), Abia State, Prof. Hillary Edoga, for transforming the institution into a world class citadel of learning with massive state-of-the/art infrastructure.
The NGO, according to its Executive Director, Hon. Chinwe Ugwu, is fully committed in promoting lofty educational programmes, good governance, as well as support all tiers of government in addressing the numerous challenges of human capital development in the country.
CREI, in a statement signed by Hon. Ugwu made available to Sundiata Post in Enugu, noted that the impressive performance of Edoga at MOUAU, is “indeed unprecedented, and deserves commendation”. The statement further reads: “Edoga has really proved that he is a good manager of both human and resources. “He has raised the bar of the university of Agriculture Umudike, and we are very sure that he was able to achieve that feat because he is an apostle of prudent management of resources.
“Without sounding immodest, CREI wants to use this medium to call on other managers of the nation’s institutions of higher learning to emulate Professor Edoga, in providing the needed learning facilities in their schools. [eap_ad_1] “It is quite amazing that Professor Edoga was able to utilise the internally generated revenue (IGR) of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture and some intervention funds to take the institution to the next level, including building of a 10-block of students’ hostel at a whopping sum of N1.5 billion.
“We are talking of a hostel project with capacity to accommodate about 2,500 students without external financial support, so, we are presenting MOUAU as a poster child for other tertiary institutions in Nigeria to emulate in financial prudence and resourcefulness.
“MOUAU is indeed, a good example in prudent management of resources and discipline, worthy of emulation by other institutions of higher learning.”
According to the organization, “our findings revealed that apart from students hostel, the Edoga-led management has also built Library Complex Phase I and College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (CEET) Phase II which were funded with capital projects allocation at a cost of N57, 625, 055.90 and N73 million respectively.
“We have also found out that through persistent efforts, the institution succeeded in getting TETFUND to finance the College of Agricultural Economics, Rural Sociology and Extension (CAERSE) block (N71, 282, 544.80), College of Natural Sciences (COLNAS) Block (N150, 632, 569.50), and College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) Block (N154, 500, 000) funded under the 2009-2011 intervention project allocation to MOUAU.
“So, CREI is saying that when ever a public office holder does well, there is need to applaud him so as to spur him to do more, because professor Edoga has really done well, and should be commended by all and sundry” the statement concluded.
