NGO Lauds BASG Over 15.8% Allocation To Health Sector In Proposed 2023 Budget

By Amina Ahmed
Bauchi, – A Bauchi-based Civil Society Organisation (CSO), Journalists for Public Health and
Development Initiative (J4PD), has commended the Bauchi State Government (BASG) for allocating 15.08
per cent of the state’s proposed 2023 budget to the health sector.

The commendation is in a statement signed by Mr Hassan Abubakar, the Knowledge and Communication
Advisor of the organisation in Bauchi on Monday.

Abubakar stated that “J4PD commends the Bauchi State Government for allocating 15.8 per cent out of the state’s proposed
2023 budget to the health sector, in line with the Abuja Declaration.

“However, J4PD appeals for timely releases of allocation, if the budget is signed into law.

“But our concern as CSO is that at the end of the year, the health budget performance leaves much to be desired
and this is due to inadequate releases of funds appropriated.”

The group also described the action of the state government for keying into the Health Insurance Scheme
as a tremendous achievement toward access to medicare.

The group, therefore, called on the state government not to relent in its efforts to address the manpower gaps in the health sector.
