LAGOS – Journalists Alliance for Prevention of Mother-To-Child Transmission of HIV in Nigeria (JAPiN), an NGO, has pledged to embark on an aggressive awareness campaign on the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
Mr Sole Ogundipe, JAPiN’s National Coordinator, made the pledge in Lagos in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Ogundipe said that the group was ready to partner organisations interested in promoting effective and sustainable Prevention of Mother-To-Child transmission (PMTCT) policy and legislation for Nigeria. [eap_ad_1] He said the NGO would also use its internet outreach as a platform to create awareness on PMTCT.
Also speaking, a member of the group, Mrs Bimbo Amosun, an editor with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), identified stigma as an impediment to efforts to impact of HIV and AIDS.
Amosun said: “although the issue of stigma is reducing we need to do more to help expectant mothers access the HIV treatment to have babies free of the virus.”
“We must ensure that our country becomes free of HIV, especially giving birth to babies free of the virus.’’ (NAN)
