KAFANCHAN – Two NGOs, Gender Awareness Trust (GAT), and Nigeria Stability and Reconciliatory Programme (NSRP), have inaugurated a peace club in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Coordinator of GAT, Mrs Lydia Umar, said in Kafanchan on Wednesday that the club would contribute to peace, check the occurrence of violence and promote gender balance.
She said the inauguration of the club had become necessary because Nigeria desired peace at this moment to enhance its development.
“Nigeria requires peace, unity and security more than ever before to guarantee its survival, stability and development.
“These informed the NGOs’ decision to adopt a strategy of setting up pilot peace clubs in all the geo-political zones of the country,” she said.
Umar explained that Jema’a Local Government Area was selected in the state for the peace club pilot scheme in the North-West Zone.
She said children and youths would be trained as “agents of positive change”.
The coordinator urged interested club members to avail themselves of the opportunity to become agents of change to ensure the survival and development of the country.
The Emir of Jema’a, Alhaji Muhammad Muhammadu, in a remark on the occasion, applauded the initiative of the NGOs in setting up the peace club.
He said the club would enhance sustainable development in the country, particularly in Southern Kaduna area.
The emir said that his recent peace visits to chiefdoms in the area had started yielding positive results.
He advised intending club members to work with a clear conscience, pray and be ready to contribute to national development. (NAN)
