ABUJA- The Nigerian Diaspora Organisation (NiDO-Worldwide), has commended Nigerian-American woman, Victoria Ogunremi, alias Ebiere, who returned 5,700 dollars cash she found in a toilet at her workplace in the U.S.
The Coordinating Chairman of organisation, Dr Victor Ubani, made the commendation while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone on Friday.
Ubani urged compatriots at home and abroad to emulate Ebiere by portraying a good image of Nigeria to the outside world.
He said that this would attract foreign investment to the country and enhance economic growth in their fatherland.
“If we all portray a good image of Nigeria by show of such good example, the greater our country will become.
“We commend Ebiere for portraying Nigeria in good light, not just at her place of work, but through the news that is fast spreading across the U.S.
“Her act of kindness has truly demonstrated that Nigerians are good people,” Ubani said.
According to him, there are not less than 20 million Nigerians living outside the shores of the country.
He encouraged more Nigerias, home and abroad, to always portray Nigeria in the right perspective, amid her several challenges.
“By so doing, our national identity will gain more value and, together, we shall wax stronger as a nation anywhere in the world.
“Nigerians must continue to be kind anywhere in the world and we must work collectively to achieve meaningful progress in our fatherland.
“We must also continue to stand out in our various endeavors by such acts of good gesture, and even more, to lift the image of our country globally,” he added.
The NiDO Worldwide coordinating chairman described Ebiere’s gesture as a remarkable act of honesty and kindness.
Ubani noted that many Nigerians living abroad had also demonstrated similar acts in the past.
He further urged governments at all levels to always reward such acts, in order to promote excellence and good character in the country.
NAN reports that Ebiere’s gesture has earned widespread praises from her employer, office colleagues and the person who lost the money.
Ubani added that the gesture served as a shining example of integrity and compassion to do what is right, even when it is not the easiest path to take. (NAN)
