Minna – Gov. Sani Bello of Niger on Monday said the state government had concluded arrangements to upgrade seven Primary Health Centres to general hospitals in seven local councils of the state.
The governor made the disclosure when he visited the Sarkin Pawa Health Care facility in Munya Local Government Area.
He said that the upgrade would ease access to quality healthcare, which he said was one of the present administration’s priority.
Bello said the government planned to establish functional general hospitals in all the 25 councils of the state within the next three years as funds were available.
He said that three PHCs in Munya, Katcha and Agwara local government areas would be upgraded this year, while that of Bosso, Gbako, Mashegu and Edati councils would be upgraded next year.
He added that “this is part of our efforts at ensuring quality, accessible and affordable health care for the people and in line with our policy of a general hospital in each of the 25 local government areas of the state.
“We are upgrading the PHCs in seven councils that are yet to have general hospital.
“We are going to ensure that these health facilities are equipped and stocked with modern instruments, personnel and medicine to meet global standard and status of General Hospital.”
The governor then directed the state’s Ministry of Health and Hospital Services to ensure that projects were delivered on schedule and standard was not compromised in all the projects. (NAN)
