MINNA – The State Niger government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) for the provision of rural electricity.
The signing of the MoU, which took place on Wednesday at the Government House, Minna, was attended by top government officials and diplomats from the German Embassy in Nigeria.
During the event, Gov. Babangida Aliyu, said the MoU was the second phase of GIZ programme in the state toward improving rural electricity.
He said that the state would put in place a strategy to attract additional public and private funding toward achieving universal electricity access for the state. [eap_ad_2] The governor said “this MoU will deepen cooperation between Niger government and the German government.
“The energy support programme will bring about business promotion and development in the state.’’
On his part, the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Micheal Zenner, said electricity was key to socio-economic development.
Zenner said the MoU would increase the number of Nigerians with access to electricity.
He added that “as we all know, renewable energy technology is particularly suited for the electrification of remote areas.
