Minna – The Niger State Government on Friday said it would spend N31 million on the renovation of the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna.
Alhaji Mamman Musa, Niger Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in Minna.
He said that the stadium would be renovated to meet international standards and give users the ultimate sporting experience.
Musa said another stadium, Habib Shuaibu Sport Complex, would be taken over by the sports ministry.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“This sports complex was transferred to Niger State Development Company by the previous administration, which is not appropriate.
“All sports facilities are under Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and are meant to generate revenue to the state.
“Thirty-one million naira has been projected for the Bako Kotangora Stadium and will house seven different types of games. Once the 2016 budget is passed by the state House of Assembly, work will kick off.
“What the government wants is to take over this complex, renovate it and put in place modern sports facilities for use,” he said.
The Commissioner also said that the state government had collected a N540 million loan for constituency projects.
He said that the money was used for the implementation of people-oriented projects by members of the state assembly.
“These projects are sinking of boreholes, provision of facilities in public schools and development of rural health care centres in communities,” he said. (NAN)
