Niamey- Nigerien Prime Minister, Rafini Brigi, on Thursday said Niger would not accept the destabilisation of Libya from its territory.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
He was reacting to rumours indicating the presence of mercenaries in Agadez, in northern Mali.
He said he had ordered the regional authorities to carry out in-depth investigations into the issue, vowing to nip the development in the board.
At the opening of the Regional Agadez council, the PM praised the efforts made by the regional authorities to tackle the problems between the Nigerien and post-Gadhafi armed groups in Oubari and Sebha, Libya.
Brigi said he was satisfied with the efforts made by the regional peace committee to ease the social tension that broke out in the region, particularly after the conflict in southern Libya.
“The government has taken strong measures in the north where, within the framework of the military cooperation, foreign forces from Niger’s neighbours are working seriously to maintain peace in Mali,’’ he said.
He said the deployment of armed forces in the area was expected to secure the borders. (PANA/NAN)
