..…As Asuri GS commends Tinubu, Odunsanya
Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Director General of the National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM), Dr Olushola Odunsanya has said that Nigeria stands a better chance of generating more income if Blue Economy is giving the right attention.
Odunsanya made this known on Wednesday in Abuja while addressing journalists in a conference with the theme:”Unlocking the potential of market -ready technology solutions for the blue economy in Nigeria.”
He said, Nigeria has enormous potential to make money if Blue Economy is exploited, adding that it’s part of the reason the conference is organised so that the various stakeholders will know their roles in making the country grow through blue economy.
According to him, “Phillipines make 70billion dollars per anum from Mariners whom you find in ships. Hardly do you see a vessel that does not have low or middle worker from Phillipines. So Nigeria can soar better, because we are many in ships business.”
Dr. Odunsanya while presenting a paper, called for teamwork and high productivity among the employees while advocating a proper leadership recruitment process in organisations.
Odunsanya, in his presentation titled Strategic Approach to Mvastering Office Dynamics at the Career Progression Conference with the theme “Decoding Office Dynamics,” also disclosed that the education being offered in Nigeria does not prepare students for solving societal needs and challenges.
The DG, however, recommended that for optimal performance in an organisation, there is a need for a clear vision and communication of goals to the employees.
In the same vein, the Secretary General of Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions (ASURI,) Professor Theophilus Ndubuaku said that the conference was coming at the right time, adding that Nigeria is a country that has enough water-ways that can be used for irrigation but noted that we are not exploiting it.
According to the ASURI Scribe, “Nigeria stands a brighter chance of benefiting enormously in blue economy because, it is as if God has blessed us with everything we need to feed the whole world and not only Nigerians. With blue economy, we can do anything, but all this while, all attention has been focussed on oil.
“This is the right step in the right direction and I am very confident that DG Odusanya will drive the process well considering the calibre of persons he has assembled here today.
“I also want to thank President Bola Tinubu for creating a ministry making blue economy something worth concentrating on. A lot of persons do not know what blue economy is all about until Tinubu came and now it’s the centre of attraction,” he said.
