Abuja – The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) may produce the next president of the North and West Africa Cricket Council (NWACC), an official has said.
Kayode Adeniyi, who is Chairman and board member of the federation, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday that the body was planning to host the council later in the year.
“They have given us the go ahead to host the council; and so, when we host the council, they are all coming with their players to play a tournament.
“Secondly, the host should also produce the president of that council, but the date has not been fixed.
The minister (of Sports) has not really approved the date we have in mind.
“The date has to be approved before you can begin to communicate/invite those countries to attend the tournament.’’
Adeniyi, who is also the Chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) FCT Chapter, said the two regions formed NWACC.
The regional council is under the umbrella of the Africa Cricket Council (ACA) but supervised by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Adeniyi said the council had not been active for a while but added member nations were making efforts to bring it back to limelight.
Meanwhile, the male cricket national team is in camp ahead of the World League Five championships Cricket hips due to take place in Jersey Island, next month. (NAN)
