Lagos – The 2016 Nigeria Navy Inter-Command Rackets and Bat Games Competition draws into conclusion as the men’s singles badminton finals take the centre stage to wrap up the four days’ competition.
With no fewer than 64 participants in the men’s singles badminton matches, Bello M. of the Western Naval Command will play Suleiman A.S of the Eastern Naval Command for the gold medal.
Bello sent Ossai O.I of the Eastern Naval Command packing out of the competition in the semi-finals by recording a 21-14, 8-21and 21-13(2-1) victory to land in the finals.
Meanwhile Bello will clash Suleiman A.S who thrashed Ojo O. of the Central Naval Command.
The match comes up at the Mobolaji Sports Complex, Yaba on Saturday, April 23 after a four-day action packed championship that saw the best players competing for honours.
In the already decided events, Okwelu I. M. of the Naval Training Command defeated Umuezuri K.E, of Eastern Naval Command, 21-11, 21-15 (2-0- to win the women’s singles’ finals.
The pair of Akeremole T. and Ojo O. of the Central Naval Command defeated Ossai O. T. and Suleiman A.S. of the Eastern Naval Command, 21-19, 21-18 (2-0) to claim first prize.
In the women’s doubles, the pair of Jimoh T. and Otabiyi S. of the Naval Headquarters defeated Okwelu and Okoji, 21-18, 21-17 (2-0) of the Naval Training Command to claim the first position
The competition which began on April 20 had 32 women participants representing their various commands competing in the badminton event.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other events expected to commemorate the closing ceremony are the men’s table tennis finals and men’s double events.
The commands that participated in the four days’ events are the Eastern Naval Command, the Western Naval Command, the Naval Training Command, Logistics Command, Central Naval Command and the Naval Headquarters. (NAN)
