IBADAN- Gov. Seyi Makinde, of Oyo State on Thursday in Ibadan charged Nigerians to give their best to the country if they wanted to see a better nation.
Makinde gave the charge during the Independence Day Walk, held in commemoration of Nigeria’s independence.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Independence Day Walk, a walk over 2.5 kilometres, took off from the Government House Arcade at Agodi, enroute Total Garden Roundabout.
It terminated at the front area of the Governor’s Office at the State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan.
NAN reports that the Walk is one of the activities lined up to celebrate the country’s 64th Independence Day.
Makinde, who was represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, urged Nigerians to be doing something within their capacity towards the country’s growth.
He further charged Nigerians to continue praying for Nigeria and seek the good of the country in spite of ongoing challenges.
Makinde expressed optimism that Nigeria would get better, urging Nigerians to pray for divine wisdom and guidance for their leaders in taking the right decisions which would make the country great.
“Nigeria is not the only country faced with challenges, because other nations in the world are also experiencing trying times,” he said.
The governor congratulated all Nigerians, especially residents of Oyo State, on the opportunity to witness another Independence Day celebration.
NAN also reports that top government functionaries, including the Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, State Commissioners and other political appointees, participated in the Independence Walk. (NAN)
