ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – In what appears to be an unfortunate harvest of road accidents in the country, the Nigerian Army has lost a senior officer and Chief of Training and Operations (Army), Maj-Gen. Yusha’u Mahmood Abubakar in an accident in Borno State.
This is coming barely 48 hours after the death of the Minister of State for Labour, Mr. James Ocholi in a ghastly motor accident and the Deputy Governor of Yobe State who barely escaped death in Kano State on Monday.
The Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Col. Sani Usman, who confirmed Abubakar’s death, said that Abubakar and the Acting General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army, Brigadier General MSA Aliyu, were involved in the road traffic accident along Maiduguri-Damaturu road on Tuesday.
“Sadly, we lost Major General Yusha’u Abubakar as a result of the incident, while Brigadier General Aliyu sustained some injuries and is receiving treatment,”Usman said.
Abubakar was the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole before his recent deployment to Army Headquarters (AHQ), Abuja.
The late CTOP was previously, a Commander of the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps.
Meanwhile, the Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu road, on which he died was one of the major roads leading to the state capital, that was opened recently by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, after three years it was closed due to Boko Haram attacks.
