ABUJA – The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) on Thursday in Abuja signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) for the coverage and transmission of its matches.
Mrs Dilichukwu Onyedinma, Chairperson of NWFL, signed on behalf of the league.
Akinloye Oyebanji, the General Manager, NTA Sports, signed on behalf of the Director-General of NTA, Mr Sola Omole.
Onyedinma said the collaboration marked a new dawn in the league and was expected to take the NWFL to the next level.
She said the development was aimed at attracting sponsors to the league. “This is what I want and it is good we have this today.
“By the time they (sponsors) see what we have been telling them and writing in the papers, they will now be convinced that it is not a child’s play and that we are serious,’’ Onyedinma said.
The NWFL chairperson, who is also a board member of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), noted that there was the need to expose the female league to the outside world.
She said this would help to fast-track the league’s transformation agenda, adding that the league needed to be repositioned.
Responding, Oyebanji said NTA had started covering NWFL matches.
“The terms of the agreement is that when we get to that matured stage, we are going to be seeing the Women Football League live on television just like we see the male league.
“So, what we are trying to do is to help this less developed part of the Nigerian football league to develop.
“We are going to be covering their matches. We are going to be covering their activities and also doing previews and reviews for them in our news.
“At the end of the day, it will get to a stage where we will be showing their matches live on television,’’ Oyebanji said.(NAN)
