Still don’t know why Nigerians like jumping into any business that seems to be booming until it is practically ruined as a result of deluge of practitioners/service providers.
The problem is that they hardly do due diligence to try and create a niche. They just throw head and body into them.
Check these out:
- Everybody now wants to be an Uber or Taxify operator/car owner. And that is why, Toyota Corrola 2003 to 2007 is more expensive than the entire budget of Lagos State 30 years ago!
- The logistics/bulk goods delivery business is practically dying as a result of too many operators. You see power bikes everywhere with rider on helmet and delivery compartment on its carrier. Now, they call people up asking if they don’t have anything to deliver.
- Since Gokada started, they have shifted attention to bike taxi transport business. In fact, I am gradually losing count of operators.
- When make-up first started, every woman wanted to learn it. Today, practitioners are even more than the number of women they want to service.
- When bead making was in vogue, even my grandmother wanted to learn it until it went out of fashion.
- Another in vogue is drop-shipping. Potential buyers are now arguably more than sellers.
*Every woman now wants to be a fashion designer. In fact, they have different names for it now. Yet, it is what is originally: TAILORING!
- Gradually joining the list is network marketing.
These things are not bad on their own only that people hardly come up with a fresh ideas/innovation that will make them stand out. They do what practically every other person is doing.
Naija people, n dewo…
