Nigerians applaud President Buhari’s decision to relocate military high command to Borno

DAMATURU – A cross section of Nigerians in Damaturu, Yobe state capital, on Friday commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to relocate the military high command to Borno as part of a renewed vigour to effectively deal with the Boko Haram insurgency.

They made the commendation in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) while reacting to the President’s inaugural speech.

MrJonathan Gopep, a resident of Damaturu, said that ”this directive is a sure means of ending insurgency in Nigeria, and we had expected this measure from the Jonathan administration”.

He said the relocation would give the soldiers on the ground more courage and strength to effectively fight the war against terrorism.

Another resident, Alhaji Usman Musa, said that the “movement of the operational base to Maiduguri will boost the morale of the Nigerian soldiers and build confidence of the public”.

Usman also expressed optimism that the new administration would provide more equipment to the security forces to enable them effectively combat terrorism.

“This singular act will give us more sense of belonging and a brighter hope of ending the insurgency in the North East,” Usman said.

Also speaking with NAN, Malam Bukar Aliyu, an undergraduate, said the fear of attending schools arising from the activities of insurgents was nearing to an end.

“The movement of the operational base of the military to Maiduguri will intensify the fight against insurgency, improve and stabilise security in the zone.
