Washington D.C.- Some Nigerians living in Washington D.C. on Monday staged a rally in support of the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan.
The supporters carried placards with inscriptions as: “we want Jonathan’’, “no to Buhari’’, “Buhari belongs to our past’’ and “Diaspora says no to a tyrant’’, among others, as they came to Regis Hotel on 16th Street.
A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent who covered the rally, reports that Nigerians from various walks of life defied the snow and rain to take part in the rally.
Mr Joseph Thomas, one of the Coordinators of the group, said that re-electing President Jonathan would take the nation to greater heights.
“Nigeria is our business. We held this rally to mobilise support for the re-election of President Jonathan.
“President Jonathan deserves another chance and under him, Nigeria is on the path of rebuilding its institutions and infrastructure.
“Jonathan’s administration diligently implemented its agenda for national transformation in priority areas that include the expansion of national infrastructure, agriculture and education, among others.”
Thomas said that it was on record that Buhari as Head of State left a track of human rights abuses.
Another participant, Mrs Jane Nwokere, said Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo have delivered on all the projects they set out to implement in 2011.

Nwokere said that under Jonathan, Nigeria’s economy had grown to become the largest in Africa.
“Jonathan is our last best chance. He has brought new life to communities and positively affected social and economic livelihood for the better.
“We say to Buhari: We are doing this to protect the interests of Nigerians and for future generations.’’
Another coordinator, Mr Franklin Ekechuku, of the Diaspora Campaign Network, said: “we prefer Jonathan because Buhari has nothing to offer Nigerians, having been out of government for almost 30 years.
“Nigerians must unite to vote for Jonathan. Let us all unite and find a way for a better Nigeria.
“Jonathan is a person with hands-on experience. He has the wit and drive to lead. (NAN)
