Uyo – The wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mrs Martha Emmanuel, has appealed to Nigerians to ensure that the unity of the country is protected by all citizens.
Mrs Emmanuel gave the charge in Government House, Uyo on Wednesday when she received members of the women wing of a group of non-indigenes living in the state
The group is made up of Arewa Consultative Forum, Igbo Community, Niger Delta States and Oduduwa People’s Congress (AINO).
The governor’s wife said that the unity of the country should be preserved collectively as Nigeria could achieve more as one indivisible nation.
”The unity of this country remains sacrosanct and we must do all we can to ensure that we encourage peace so that we can achieve more as a nation,” she said.
Mrs Emanuel also used the occasion to remind the women of their responsibilities as mothers, saying that the rate of teenage pregnancy and other social vices in the country was alarming.
”I appeal to you as mothers not to neglect your primary duties of inculcating good etiquette and good morals in your wards,” she said.
The governor’s wife thanked the group for its support during the electioneering period.
She said that she was impressed to see the members working together irrespective of their various backgrounds.
Earlier, leader of the group Mrs Ekaette Onuoha, thanked the governor’s wife for granting the group audience.
According to her, the group is elated to be part of the success story.
Onuoha assured Mrs Emmanuel of the group’s continued loyalty and support to the administration.
She solicited for inclusion of the members in various government empowerment programmes for women. (NAN)
