Enugu (Enugu State) – Nike Grammar School, Enugu, on Tuesday won the 2016 Quiz Competition for secondary schools in Enugu East Senatorial Zone of the State.
The school scored 45 points in seven subjects in the quiz to clinch the trophy.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Girls Secondary School, Abakpa Nike came second with 39 points while the Community Secondary School, Emene won the third position with 27 points.
The Chairman of the Quiz Committee from the Enugu zonal office of the Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB), Mr Joseph Ozioko, said the competition was the beginning of a series of competitions held annually in the state.
Ozioko said the quiz competitions were held in secondary schools in the three senatorial zone of the state with a view to boosting quality of education.
The chairman said another competition would continue with a debate in English and Igbo languages on June 6.
Ozioko expressed dismay at the non- participation of some schools even after being informed by the Ministry of Education.
He said winners would participate in the grand finale at the state level.
Some of the participants expressed satisfaction with the organisation of the competition.
Stanley Okpara, who was one of the students that represented Nike Grammar School, said he was delighted over the victory.
While thanking the state government for the competition, Okpara said it would encourage him to improve on his studies.
Chinemerem Madugba who represented the second winner urged the state government to continue such competitions not only in secondary schools but in primary schools.
