Abuja -The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) on Tuesday reiterated its commitment to full implementation and enforcement of the International Ships and Ports Facility Security (ISPS) Code in the country’s ports.
Dr Dakuku Peterside, the Director-General of the agency stated this in a statement signed by the agency’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mrs Lami Tumaka and made available to newsmen in Abuja.
“The agency is no doubt the Designated Authority (DA) for the implementation of ISPS Code.
“We will therefore upscale our performance in this aspect by working with local and international stakeholders to develop quality industry specific training for the staff.
“This will enhance performance and productivity in the line of duty,’’ Peterside was quoted as saying.
He said that the ISPS Code training would by facilitated by experts from the International Maritime Organisation for the staff of NIMASA, NIWA, NPA and the Federal Ministry of Transportation.
“The initiative is intended to bridge the knowledge gaps and strengthen the code’s execution in the country,’’ he said.
He said that in the current drive to strengthen the industry, NIMASA had developed an in-house training initiative to update the skills of the workers. (NAN)
