Lagos – The management of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), is committed to stamping out those bent on disrupting the peace in its areas of operation.
Mr Haruna Jauro, the Acting Director-General of the agency, made the statement at the opening of the Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information (NASPRI) media workshop in Lagos.
A statement issued by Hajia Lami Tumaka, Head of Public Relations of NIMASA and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Lagos, said that D-G spoke as a special guest of honour at the occasion.
Jauro reiterated that NIMASA was committed to the success of the working agreement with the military to keep the Nigerian maritime environment safe from criminals.
The D-G, who commended the Nigerian military for its war against insurgency, said he had first hand experience of the security challenges facing the zone being an indigene of Yobe state.
He urged media practitioners to ensure that they balance the business goals of their owners with national interest.
He urged the workshop participants, who were made up of military officers and defence correspondents to use the workshop to improve their knowledge of the armed forces.
“The media is an important stakeholder in all phases of military operations, particularly in the ongoing fight against insurgency,’’ Jauro said.
