ABUJA – The first batch of graduates to be produced by the National Institute of Sports (NIS) outside its Lagos campus will on Wednesday have their graduation ceremony.
Alex Mana, a lecturer in the institute, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja that a total of 67 coaches would graduate from the institution’s Abuja campus.
He said the new coaches are students who participated in the institute’s just-concluded Basic Intensive Coaching Course.
Mana, who is the course’s Chairman, told NAN in a telephone interview that the coaching course was successful.
He said this was in spite of the fact that it was the first time for the institute to hold a course in Abuja.
“Sixty-seven students registered for the course and we are graduating all of them. They went through a process of oral interview, practical examination and medical test.
“The course has been successful and we thank God for it, even though this is the first time we are organising a course in Abuja. Our courses are usually in Lagos,’’ the former football referee said.
He said the graduands were 61 male and six female and the graduation ceremony would hold at the NIS premises at the Abuja National Stadium.
NAN reports that the three- month coaching course which began in October is the most introductory course among all the courses offered by the institute.
All the course participants were drawn from five sports, namely athletics, basketball, boxing, football and volleyball.(NAN)
