The Controller, Border Patrol Command, Mr Abdulahi Hayatu while handing over the victims, said that they were arrested in a Young shall Grow luxury bus on Jan. 2 while enroute to Ivory Coast.
“The victims, Taiye Ademola, 21, from Ogun State and Faith Egbife, 19, from Delta were on their way to Ivory Coast and our men stopped the bus for a routine check.
“Sighting the victims, they were asked certain questions and they could not provide the answers to them, so, it raised our suspicions.
“On further questioning and investigation, we found out that the manager of the bus was the agent in the trafficking chain,” he said.
The controller regretted that those who should serve as informants to the service were abating horrendous act.
“It is sad and annoying to find out that people that are supposed to be providing us with relevant information are the ones committing the crime.
“We will fish them out and they shall be dealt with according to the law,” he said.
Taiye Ademola, one of the victims who spoke to NAN claimed ignorance of the act.
“We didn’t know that we were being taken to Ivory Coast for human trafficking.
“We spoke to a man who simply identified himself as Chidi and he promised to assist us when we get to Ivory Coast,” she said.
Mrs Omolara Ibrahim, who stood for NAPTIP, noted that investigation would commence to apprehend the fleeing manager and traffickers. (NAN)
