Abuja   –     The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Friday organised a one-day training programme on Public Relations tagged: “Hostmanship Training’’ for twenty of its officers.

The officers being trained are within the ranks of Chief Superintendent and Assistant Comptroller of Immigration.

Mr Jeroen Van Hattum is the trainer and the programme is sponsored by the Embassy of Netherlands.

The Comptroller-General of the service, Mr Mohammad Babandede, said the objective of the training was to build the capacity of the personnel and enhance their relationship with the general public.

Babandede also said that the exercise was a Train-the-Trainer programme in which the officers would be trained to train other personnel.

“The course is not going to end here alone; they will also go for further training in Netherlands.

“Attitude of good hospitality and high level of responsibility at the border post and outpost is what the training is all about.

“We want everybody to feel at home especially those you are meeting at the first time,’’ he said.

The comptroller-general said the training was also part of the security measures put in place by the service.

He said that the programme would change the officers’ attitude and manners to work.
