The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has warned that it will initiate a nationwide strike if the Nigeria Police detains its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero.
This warning was issued on Tuesday morning at the NLC headquarters following an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting. The meeting was called to address the police’s invitation of Ajaero over allegations of terrorism financing.
The NEC decided that Ajaero should respond to the police invitation but requested that their legal adviser seek an extension of time for him to appear before the police.
Comrade Ado Kabiru Sani, the Deputy President of the NLC, urged workers across the nation to stay alert for further instructions if the police detain Ajaero.
He stated, “As a committed labor center, we will honor the invitation of the police because we are not a faceless organization, but we are working with our lawyer for an extension of time.
In the event that the President is arrested, all workers will down tools immediately. We should wait for further directives from our leadership.”
