Lagos – The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Thursday commended the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Lagos Chapter, for successfully conducting a free and fair election for its new executive.
Mr Adelakun Idowu, the chairman of the NLC, said that he was impressed with the conduct of the election that was peaceful and devoid of violence.
“Elections should not be a ‘ do-or-die affair’, but must be conducted in a manner that shows maturity and professionalism,” he said.
Idowu advised the newly elected executive of PMAN to serve diligently in whatever capacity they find themselves emphasising that leaders should see themselves as servants of the people.
He said that leaders were called servants because without the support of their followers, those in leadership would be useless.
Also, Mr Francis Ogunremi, the chairman of TUC, Lagos Chapter, said that PMAN and TUC had come a long way in building a cordial relationship between them.
Ogunremi advised the executive of PMAN to be more visible during NLC meetings to further preserve the existing relationship between them.
