Bauchi- Comrade Hashim Gital, the Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Bauchi Council, has appealed to the state government to pay outstanding salaries and entitlements before May 29.
Gital, who made the appeal in Bauchi at a ceremony to mark the 2015 Workers Day, commended workers for their patience and self-control, especially in agreeing to collect instalmental payment for February 2015 salary.
“Settling all outstanding salaries and entitlements will make for a smooth transition to the incoming administration,” Gital said.
The chairman said that the National President of the NLC had urged the newly elected governor to give priority to the welfare of workers so as to inspire them up toward higher productivity.
He also implored the state government to conduct elections into local government councils, to allow people at the grassroots to have a new lease life.
In his address, Gov. Isa Yuguda, represented by the Head of Service, Mr Abdon Gin, commiserated with the families of workers who lost their in the last one year.
Yuguda said that the government had recorded 181 interventions toward improved workers’ welfare.
He said that the Bauchi Government had fulfilled promises it made to civil servants and urged them to reciprocate that gesture by remaining fully committed to higher productivity.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, General Services, Alhaji Ahmed Jarmaju ,representing the Head of Service, expressed appreciation to the civil servants for their cooperation, and urged them to extend same to the incoming administration.
