Mr. Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, has been bestowed with the prestigious Energy Times’ GCEO of the Year Award, in acknowledgment of his steadfast commitment to accountability, transparency, and excellence in performance.
Accepting the award on behalf of Mr. Kyari, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd, participated in a ceremony held at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos on Friday.
The Governing Council of the Energy Times Award Committee highlighted Kyari’s dedication, citing his instrumental role in propelling the company’s success and fostering significant advancements within Nigeria’s energy sector.
In his remarks during the event, Kyari emphasized NNPC Ltd’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s transition following the enactment of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). He underscored the company’s focus on advancing Nigeria’s gas utilization, leveraging its substantial natural gas reserves exceeding 209 trillion cubic feet.
“We are spearheading the development of vital gas infrastructure projects such as the OB-3 Gas Pipeline and the AKK Gas Pipeline to bolster domestic gas usage,” Kyari remarked. He also emphasized the company’s initiatives in international gas ventures, including the West Africa Gas Pipeline, Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline, and projects like Train 7 of the NLNG and Floating LNG ventures aimed at global gas markets.
Furthermore, Kyari highlighted NNPC Ltd’s proactive expansion in the power sector, aiming to evolve into a comprehensive energy entity. “In addition to our interests in various Independent Power Plants like Afam VI and Okpai Phases 1 and 2, collectively generating 1,420MW, we are poised to construct three new power plants along the AKK Pipeline corridor in Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano,” he elaborated. He also referenced the groundbreaking ceremony for the 1,350MW Gwagwalada Power Plant, presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in August of the previous year.
Dedicating the award to the diligent staff of NNPC Ltd, Kyari expressed gratitude to the Energy Times editorial board for the recognition. He affirmed that the accolade would serve as further motivation to continue driving progress both within NNPC Ltd and the broader Nigerian Oil & Gas Industry.
