Yusuf Shitu Galambi, the lawmaker representing Gwaram Federal Constituency in Jigawa State, has left the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, during Thursday’s House plenary session.
While reading Galambi’s defection letter, Abbas stated that the lawmaker attributed his decision to the leadership crisis and ongoing legal disputes within the NNPP.
In his letter, Galambi wrote: “I write to formally notify you, honourable members, of my decision to switch my political party membership from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision follows the directives of my constituency, who are dissatisfied with the leadership crisis, litigations, and factional disputes within the NNPP.
“I appreciate the NNPP for providing the platform to be in this great chamber before the unfortunate division that has now factionalized the party.
“This decision is in accordance with Section 68 (1) of the 1999 constitution (as amended) for your guidance and records.
“Be rest assured of my commitments to the 10th Assembly, the APC-led government at all levels, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
According to Sundiata Post, Galambi’s defection was met with excitement and applause from his colleagues in the House who are members of the ruling APC.
