The Nigerian Telecom Regulator has assured Subscribers that they will not be charged for drop calls or Services not rendered by any Telecom Operator in the Country.
The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Professor Umar Danbatta reaffirmed this on Wednesday when the Management of the NCC appeared before the Joint Committee on Communication and Trade and Investment at the National Assembly in Abuja.
The EVC said the Commission is concerned about Quality of Service and has come up with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) ensuring the ratio of dropped calls is just one out of a hundred calls (1-100).

Explaining the reason why some subscribers still experience poor Quality of service, Director Technical Standard (NCC), Engr. Bako Wakil attributed it to incessant vandalism of telecom infrastructures, security challenges faced in some of the Base Station Transceiver Sites (BTS) amongst other challenges.
His words;
“Telecommunication services in Nigeria is one of the best in the world. We also have a lot of passive service providers apart from the regular Service providers. Capacity constraints and infrastructure on ground is insufficient while multiple taxation/regulations, Right of Way (RoW) which is not found anywhere else is what is prevalent here. Vandalism of fiber cables is also part of this. NCC records cases of thousands of fiber cuts per month, which are either destroyed by construction work, one as witnessed in Daura, Kogi and many other States”
Engr Wakil further stated that the EVC also led a delegation to the FCT, Minister Bala Mohammed to proffer solution to the issue of right of way and other challenges faced by Operators which in turn affects subscribers.
On his part, Minister for Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola highlighted the level of collaborations with relevant agencies, while advising collocation within Service Providers.
The Director General, Consumer Protection Council (CPC) Babatunde Irukera said spectrum allocation is also an issue that should be looked into while lauding NCC for building transparent price billing regime and also commending the NCC for the success of reducing unsolicited text message to the barest minimum.
The Committee Chairman, Senator Oluremi Tinubu however charged the NCC to ensure full compliance of regulations to Telecom Operators.
