LAGOS – A renowned sports administrator, Mr Elias Gora, on Wednesday said that no country could achieve any meaningful development in sports without knowledgeable coaches to groom talents.
Gora spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
He said that an athlete would not maximise his or her potential until trained by a well-grounded coach.
“Athletes do not know how to maximise their potential, but an experienced coach knows how to tap into the full potential of a talent.

“There is no way a country can succeed in any sport without the development of its coaches and coaching services,’’ Gora said.
Gora, who was the Chef de Mission at the 2011 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, implored sports authorities to develop coaches by exposing them to new techniques.
“We have to train and produce knowledgeable coaches who can be given the right exposure to develop our athletes at all levels.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“This is the only way we can resuscitate our dwindling fortunes.
“We need knowledgeable coaches and sports administrators who can take our athletes to regional and international competitions.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“In today’s world of athletics, it is not just the job of a coach to train an athlete, inputs of several other professions such as sports medicine and sports science are required,’’ he added. (NAN)
