LAGOS (Sundiata post) – Gospel singer Kenny Saint Brown, popularly known as KSB, has reflected on the tragic passing of late Nigerian rapper Dagrin, suggesting that his untimely death may have been linked to the kind of prayers he offered in his music.
Speaking on the Hoha podcast, the former Kennis Music artiste recalled Dagrin’s feature on her 2010 prayer-themed track Turn Me Around, where he focused on fame and material success but failed to ask for a long life.
“When he [Dagrin] died, I cried, because the prayer requests on that [Turn Me Around] song God did it for him,” KSB said. “And I asked God what happened, He said go and listen to his Prayer Request, there is no long life there. He just said make I blow, ‘Mo fe ma gun Bentley,’ let everybody know me worldwide, and God granted everything.”
Dagrin, whose real name was Olayitan Oladapo, died on April 22, 2010, at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) following a car crash near Mushin. The rapper reportedly rammed into a stationary truck around 3 a.m., was found unconscious by police, and later died after days in critical condition.
Widely regarded as a trailblazer of indigenous rap in Nigeria, Dagrin’s legacy has continued to influence the music scene long after his death.
