Abuja – The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has attributed the recent agitations for the disintegration of the country to the lack communication between the old generation and youths.
This was among the conclusions reached at a media chat organised by the NOA in Abuja on Thursday.
Dr Garba Abari, the Director-General of NOA, explained that the communication gap had not been beneficial to the corporate existence of the country.
Abari urged youths to always engage in activities that would strengthen the unity of the country and eschew violence.
He said that no country could survive without the rule of law and social justice.
In his remark, Mr Mike Omeri, a former NOA Director-General, urged Nigerians to forge greater unity by exhibiting patriotism, to enable the country to achieve peace and development.
“Let us set aside our differences and strengthen the bond of unity and peaceful co-existence among us.
“Let us de-emphasise issues that divide us and dwell on attributes that promote unity and government transformation agenda,” Omeri said.
Omeri and Malam Idi Farouq, another former Chief Executive of the agency advocated for adequate funding of NOA, to enable it to perform optimally.
They also advised those using youths to perpetrate violence to desist and utilise their resources to uplift the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that NOA is charged with the task of communicating government policies, staying abreast of public opinion, promoting patriotism, national unity and development of the Nigerian society.
