He made the call during a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Enugu South Local Government, Mr Victor Agbo, on Wednesday in Enugu.
Onukwube said that NOA was saddled with the responsibilities of giving national guidance and orientation.
According to him such guidance are in the areas of values, attitudes and behaviour which the citizens are expected to cultivate and demonstrate so as to have peace, progress and stability.
“The idea of the agency having its staff in the 774 local government of the federation is to ensure that the gap between governance and the people is bridged by interacting with the people.
“Getting people who are in executive position to know the feeling and aspirations of the people.
“Officials who are in local governments that are close to grassroots should go to the people from ward to ward to sample their opinion and their feelings on governance.
“They should in the same way take feedback to government so that people in authority will know how to direct the ship of governance,” he said.
He pleaded with the staff of the agency to add value to their duties so as to be relevant in the local governments where they posted.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Enugu South Local Government, Mr Victor Agbo, commended the agency for ensuring that Nigeria was moving in the right direction.
Agbo urged the agency to move into schools to encourage teachers to educate students to love Nigeria as their country and imbibe the culture of patriotism.
He promised to work with the agency at all times especially in the sensitisation on voters’ registrations, the on-going national conference and other activities of the agency.
The chairman assured that traditional rulers in Enugu South would be called upon to take part in sensitising their subjects on national programmes. (NAN)
