ABUJA – A Nigerian movie producer, Obi Osotule, has said that the movie, “Yellow Cassava’’, will go a long way in promoting the diverse cultures of Nigeria.
Osotule, a pioneer member of the Nigerian movie industry, made the statement in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
He noted that the movie which highlights the nutritional value of other cassava species apart from white cassava was acted in different Nigerian languages to promote Nigerian languages.
“This is the first time a movie like this is produced in different languages to promote the consumption of cassava.
“The movie, “Yellow Cassava’’ , was acted to promote Vitamin A and E which is good for the eye.
“This is equally a way of calling out farmers to produce more of cassava for export purpose and national consumption.
“But most importantly, the movie is aimed at educating the masses and promoting the nutritional values of cassava and encourage people to eat cassava processed foods,’’ Osotule said. “The Federal Government is ready to provide farming tools and machines to farmers who are ready to take up this challenge.
“For me as a movie maker/producer, sometimes money is not the issue, it requires patience and time.
“Using the movie, “Invasion 1879’,’ as an example, the producer was given N15 million to produce that movie; so creativity equally matters.
He explained that the stages of cassava cultivation were also a message to movie producers not to be in a hurry when making films as it was a process that required consistency and perseverance.
“Yellow Cassava’’ premiered at Silverbird Cinema, tells the story of a new cassava crop that was brought into a local community to educate people on the huge nutritional benefits of the staple crop. (NAN)
