Lagos – A 24-year-old bricklayer, Dare Adebayo, who allegedly assaulted one Emoru Abdullahi by beating him to a pulp, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Senior Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Adebayo, a resident of No. 39, Santos Ave., in Abule-Egba near Ikeja in Lagos State, is facing a two-count charge of a breach of the peace and unlawful assault.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Mike Unah, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 20 at Santos Avenue, Abule Egba.
Unah said that Adebayo assaulted Abdullahi by beating him to a pulp.
“The complainant says he cooks and sells noodles for a living.
“Abdullahi said that on that fateful day, the complainant had closed for the day and he was packing his cooking utensils when Adebayo came to meet him to cook noodles for him.
“The complainant told Adebayo that he could not cook the noodles because he had closed for the day.
“Adebayo became furious and he started beating the complainant and told him to cook the noodles if he valued his life.
“When the complainant saw that he could not handle the accused, he shouted for help,” the prosecutor said.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 166 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 171 prescribes a three-year jail term for assault occasioning harm.
Adebayo, however, denied the offences.
The Senior Magistrate, Mrs A.O Gbajumo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till April 18 for mention. (NAN)
