The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned power outage in the North-East region from June 10 to June 14, 2025, due to construction work at the new Bauchi 330kV Substation.
The outage will affect several states, including Adamawa, Borno, Taraba, Yobe, Gombe, and Bauchi.
TCN cited the need to temporarily shut down critical transmission lines to allow for the safe crossing of new towers. Distribution companies, including Yola Electricity Distribution Company and Jos Electricity Distribution, have confirmed the outage will impact their customers.
Some areas will receive power through alternative sources, such as Dadin Kowa Hydro power plant and MEPP. The outage is attributed to the lack of backup transmission lines in the region, with a retired TCN official calling for a second transmission line project to mitigate future blackouts.
