Youths from the six states of the Northeast in Adamawa State for a leadership training programme have been urged to be the ideal politicians to tidy up the political terrain for a better Nigeria.
Five hundred youths from Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, Borno, and host state Adamawa are in Yola attending a North-East Zonal Leadership Summit organised by an NGO, Lead Generation Initiative (LGI).
Founder of the LGI, Hon Shina Peller, advised the youths not to be discouraged by the talk about politics being dirty but to take the challenge to remedy whatever may be wrong with the system.
“Get into the system and help the change it needs because if we leave things as they are, they will only get worse,” said Hon Shina, a House of Representatives member from Oyo State.
The LGI founder, who explained the organisation exists to create opportunities for young people to channel their creativity and aspirations to add value to their communities, said: “We develop the interest of youths in social inclusion and participation in the democratic and political processes in Nigeria.”
The Yola event tagged: ‘North East zonal get involved leadership summit,’ was meant to re-orientate and raise the consciousness of youths for national development.
National Secretary of the LGI, Mr Ella Ekpa, said that after the training, the participants would be expected to go back to organise Get Involved Leadership Training (GILT) for larger participants at the state, local and ward levels.
Sadiq Daware, National Chairman of an agricultural resources outfit, Northeast Commodity Development Association (NECAS), promised to support the youths for engagements in agricultural activities.
He said constant support for youths in entrepreneurial skills will address unemployment as well as reduce insecurity.
