Kaduna – A group, Northern Nigeria Youth Frontiers, have commended Zamfara House of Assembly for repealing the law that granted life pension to former governors and other political office holders of the state.
The group’s Chairman, Dr Abubakar Salisu-Taruni and Secretary, Sirajo Habib-Tsafe, made the commendation at a press conference on Wednesday in Kaduna.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the law, which was repealed by the assembly on Tuesday has been assented to by Gov. Bello Matawalle.
“We are commending the stand of Zamfara state house of assembly of taking the bull by the horn in repealing the controversial pension law for political office holders.
“However, we urge them to organize a public hearing to investigate atrocities including looting of the state treasury allegedly committed by the immediate past administration of the state.”
The group appreciated the efforts of Gov. Matawalle in tackling security challenges in the state, noting that the efforts have been yielding positive results, as banditry has drastically reduced in the state and other parts of Sokoto, Katsina and Kaduna states.
It called on former Zamfara governor, Alhaji Abdul’Aziz Yari and his supporters to support the ongoing peace efforts and reconciliation with bandits to ensure sustainable peace and stability in the state.
“We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to award a befitting national honour particularly to the Zamfara state governor and those who sacrificed their lives and energy in order to bring about peace in the state.”
The group urged Nigerians to continue to pray and support the federal and state governments to ensure development in the country.
