Berlin, Nov – A landmark challenge to Northern Ireland’s strict abortion laws has been successful, following a court ruling on Monday, a report said.
Judge Mark Horner sided with the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission’s calls for legal termination in cases of rape, incest or fatal fetal abnormalities.
Horner told Belfast High Court that the current law “breached” the rights of women.
Under the current law, abortion is illegal unless the pregnancy poses serious threat to the mother’s physical or mental health.
