The government of Mali, which is recovering from a 2012 military coup and an Islamist insurgency, condemned the attack.
No group has yet to claim responsibility.
MINUSMA had previously confirmed that a cell of the terrorist group al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb is believed to be located in the region.
On Thursday evening, the president replaced Prime Minister Moussa Mara with Modibo Keita, who has been instrumental in government’s negotiations with northern rebel groups. (dpa/NAN)
