ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The Northern Senators Forum (NSF) today congratulated General Dr. Yakubu Gowon, former Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on his 90th birthday.
In a statement signed by Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, Chairman of the NSF, the Forum described General Gowon as a visionary leader whose dedication to Nigeria’s unity and progress has left an indelible mark on the nation’s history.
“General Gowon’s leadership played a crucial role in guiding Nigeria into a new era after the civil war, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to peace and stability,” Senator Yar’adua said. “His legacy continues to inspire and guide our nation, and we are grateful for his selfless service to Nigeria.”
The NSF highlighted some of General Gowon’s notable achievements, including:
– The creation of states in 1967, replacing the existing regional arrangement
– Establishing institutions like the National Youth Service Corps, promoting unity and national integration among Nigerian youths
