Abuja – Prof. Uba Adamu, the Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), on Monday in Abuja said the institution was strategising to become the hub of Open Distance Learning (ODL) in Africa.
NOUN’ s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr Ibrahim Sheme, in a statement said Adamu made the assertion when members of the Bayero University Kano Alumni Association, FCT Chapter, visited him.
He said that Adamu commended the Federal Government for its commitment to the development of ODL in Nigeria.
Sheme said that the vice-chancellor described the special intervention fund approved by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration as timely in opening a new vista in the operations of the institution.
“NOUN will take its pride of place as the hub of open and distance education in Africa.
“Arrangements have been concluded for the institution to make in-roads to other parts of Africa to strengthen collaboration and partnership.’’
Sheme said that the vice-chancellor also explained that plans were underway to unveil a comprehensive advocacy programme that would highlight the values of education to Nigerians.
He noted that the Chairman of the association, Mohammed Alhassan Gumel, extolled the virtues of NOUN for being at the forefront of providing Nigerians access to education irrespective of their background. (NAN)
