LAGOS- The Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA), Western Naval Command, on Saturday distributed cash and food items including rice, vegetable oil, spaghetti among others to 100 widows and orphans at Navy Town, Lagos State.
Mrs Josephine Oamen, Chairman, Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA), said that the gesture was done to celebrate the 59th anniversary of the association.
She said the activities which kicked off on Friday with a Jumat service in the Western Command, was held simultaneously at NOWA Headquarters, Abuja, seat of the NOWA President, Mrs Ijeoma Ogalla.
“We carry out widows and orphans outreach every year and will continue to do this each year, to encourage the widows and orphans in our midst.
“We do this to strengthen and give them hope for the future, so that they can live life to the fullest.
“We had resource people who lectured them on how they can continue to sustain themselves in widowhood,” she said.
Dr Aisha Oladejo, the CEO, Sanda Natural Clinic, Navy Tow, urged the widows to take care of their mental health so that they can adequately cater for their children.
Oladejo said that mental stability had to do with the way one controlled and regulated his or her emotions from the feelings, thoughts and how one behaved in regulation with medical standard.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Helen Okojie was grateful and said that the palliative would go a long way in sustaining her family as the Yuletide approached.
Ms Dorcas Momodu, an orphan, thanked NOWA for the gesture and prayed that God would continue to empower and sustain them to continue in their good works. (NAN)
