NOWA treats guests to a carol night of nine lessons

Lagos  –  The Nigerian Navy Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA) held a Christmas Carol night on Saturday to show love and entertain guests, friends and family in Lagos.

The event, which was held at the Nigeria Navy Ship (NNS) Quorra Auditorium, Naval Base, Apapa, was well attended by senior officers– both serving and retired.

Among those that attended were naval officers, their family members and friends, including the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command,g and Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC), Rear Adm. Ferguson Bobai and Ifeola Mohammed respectively.

Others were Rear Adm. Raphael Osondu and their family members, including students of NOWA nursery, primary and secondary schools.

In her remarks, the National President of NOWA and wife of the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Mrs Theresa Ibas, said carol service was one of the most potent images of Christmas.

“That love that Christ paid for by dying for us should remain with us because with love, everything is possible,’’ she said.

She said that the spiritual significance of Christmas defined God’s love in the immaculate conception of Christ.

“NOWA celebrates carols in unique style that brings every family together to appreciate the love God has for us,’’ she said.

The Special Guest of Honour, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas, said that the Yuletide was a season of love and “we must pray and thank God for sustaining us from January till now”.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there were carols rendition by the NOWA schools, NOWA, NARAWA choir and Navy Steel Band.

NAN also reports that one of the nine lessons at the carol night was read by the wife of the CNS.

A candle-light procession and the cutting of a cake were part of activities at the carol night.
