Abuja- Clifford Enosorogbe defeated Emmanuel Sylvester 7-5, 6-2 on Thursday in one of the quarter-final matches of the ongoing Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Open Tennis Championships to grab a semi-finals ticket.
The match, which is in the men’s singles category, was played at the tennis courts of Package B of the Abuja National Stadium.
In another match, Candy Idoko qualified for semi-finals after Henry Atseye failed to continue, owing to a shoulder injury he sustained, with Idoko leading 5-3.
In the other men’s singles match, Imeh Joseph walked over Michael Moses, who did not show up for the match, while Idoko Emmanuel beat Abdullahi Hamidu 6-1, 6-4.
In the women’s singles category, Christie Agugbom beat Loveth Donatus 6-1, 6-1, while Blessing Samuel beat Chidinma Chukwu 6-1, 6-2 to book semi-final tickets for the championship.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the winners of the NPA championships’ men and women singles titles will receive N300,000 each, while the runners-up will get N200,000 each.
The winners of the men and women doubles will get N100,000 each, while the runners-up will also share N75,000 each.
The championships, which is holding at the Package B of the Abuja National Stadium is being organised by the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF).
It began on Nov. 28 and is expected to end on Dec. 6.(NAN)
