The Board of the NPF Microfinance Bank Plc has announced the appointment of Mr. Akinwumi Lawal as the substantive managing director of the bank and Mr. Jude Chukwueloka Ohanehi as an executive director. A statement on Tuesday stated that the appointment was made at the Board of Directors’ meeting on June 25, 2014 and was ratified by shareholders at the 20th Annual General Meeting held in a day after, adding that the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria had been secured for the new appointments. According to the statement, Lawal, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and a certified microfinance banker, holds a Higher National Diploma from the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, which he obtained in 1994, after which he bagged a Master’s of Business Administration degree in 2003 from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.

He started his professional career with Fidelity Bond Insurance Brokers as a Principal Clerk before joining the Federal Savings Bank where he was between 1987 and 1991; and between 1991 and 1993, he worked with FSB International Bank Limited as a Treasury Unit Officer; while from 1993 to 1994, he worked for United Commercial Bank Limited. The statement noted that Lawal joined NPF Microfinance Bank Plc in 1995 as head of accounts and had occupied several positions in the bank, ranging from branch manager, Abuja, from 1999 to 2005; senior manager/head of treasury from 2005 to 2007; assistant general manager, financial control, from 2007 to 2009; assistant general manager, operations, from 2009 to 2010; and deputy general manager, operations/head, risk management enterprise, from 2011 to 2013. Ohanehi, a member of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers and a certified microfinance banker, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the Imo State University, Okigwe in 1990 before obtaining his MBA in Finance from the University of Calabar in 2002. He started his career as a youth corps member at the Army Barracks, Janguza, Kano State between 1990 and 1991 before joining DBL Beverages, Onitsha, Anambra State in 1991. In 1993, he joined the Credit/Marketing Department of NPF Microfinance Bank Plc and occupied different positions, including acting head, Abuja Liaison Office; acting head of the general service treasury department from 2002 to 2005; head, Abuja Liaison Office from 2005 to 2009; and head, financial control from 2009 to 2012.
